Green Building
What is Green Building? According to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) web site:
“Green Building is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings use resources – energy, water, and materials – while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle, through better site selection, design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal.”
Green Advantages of Metal Roofing and Pre-engineered Metal Buildings include:
- Steel is the most recycled material in the world.
- Steel is friendly to specialized coatings, such as highly reflective roof paint.
- Steel is durable and has a longer life-cycle compared to other types of construction.
- Metal buildings maximize shop fabrication, resulting in less site disturbance than other forms of construction.
- Excellent distribution network minimizes product transit.
- Use of built-up sections minimizes wasted material.
In addition to tax credits for utilizing solar or alternative energy, there is also a unique tax deduction available to anyone making a commercial building more energy efficient.
Rather than a deduction for the cost of equipment or improvements to make a commercial building more energy efficient, the deductible amount is based on the size of the building, up to $1.80 per square foot for buildings achieving a 50-percent energy savings. A lesser flat-rate deduction is available for achieving smaller energy savings.
Let us show you how a new “cool roof” can turn your property into a qualifying energy efficient building. Cool Roof colors can reduce cooling costs in Southern climates by 3% to 8% over Gavalume™ roofs. Cool Roofing is recognized by LEED, Energy Star and ASHRAE 90.1.
